Coding For The First Time

My certificate when I finished the Flappy Code !

What the interface looks like !
Today, we were learning code for the first time in forever. It was really cool. We learnt that code is what everyone will need to know in the future in order to get jobs and other things. So Miss Haydon is preparing us and giving us the best start by showing us a new website called code.org. It was really fun and interesting too. We started with hour of codes where we had to drag commands in order to make our character/person to do something. There were different hours of code like flappy code, minecraft code, star wars code and many more !

High Jump Tips

High Jumping Tips :
Head Facing Up/Toes Facing up:
When you jump to go over the bar on an high jump, remember to look up and point your toes up while you're in the air.

Run Up Fast To Jump/Run Up Sideways To The Bar:
Remember when you run up to the bar, you always must run sideways to it in order to jump it nicely. And also run up fast.

Left Leg, Right Leg/Right Leg, Left Leg:
Right, right, left left means. when you run up to the bar sideways, the leg nearest to the bar is your lead leg. You must find what’s for comfortable for you. Then when you run up to jump, your lead leg should go over the bar first, then your other leg follows.

Left, Left/Right, Right:
When you jump, you need to remember when you lift your lead leg to go over the bar, you also need to swing your arm up with the leg. When you do that, it propels your legs to go further. For example, if your left leg wants to go over the bar, you also swing your left and and so on.

This term, we also done high jump, It was really fun. And just like when we done running which you can find on my blog, our athletic's teacher, Andy taught us some tips to help us with our high jumps. Hope you really like it !

Running tips

Running Tips:

#1 Run Straight/Look Straight:
When you run, we always look around and that distracts us from running thus making us run wonky. And when you run straight, you get there faster instead of covering more ground when running in a zig zag.

#2 High Knees/Light Feet:
When you have high knees, they help take bigger steps which helps you cover more area when you run. Light feet help you lift your legs so you can run easier.

#3 Tall Back/Cheek To Cheek:
Cheek to cheek means that you move your hand from your left cheek on your face to your left cheek on your bum and you have to do that for both your arms. Your arms also propel your legs to go further too.

This term for physical education we are learning althetics with our wonderful teacher, Andy ! We have learned the key things for running which I have listed above. Hope you enjoy !

Build With Chrome

My Fabulous Creation Which I Made !

Today, we were using build with chrome for maths ! It was really cool. Build with chrome helps us learn what we need to know in 3D printing like all the dimensions and Measurements, and this helps us with all of that so we can create our own 3D items with Tinkercad and other softwares. I made a house with different coloured bricks for every layer, also do check out my classmates creations too on their blogs ! Hope you like it !

Freddy's Explanation

“ 30 minutes left “ warned Mr Garfield. Today we were presenting explanations to the whole class for reading and teaching them about something new like how submarines go up and down. We had to choose something interesting and me and my buddy, Luke, chose how airplanes fly. Mr Garfield had said we only had 30 minutes to come up with what we were saying. First, me and Luke investigated on the web for facts and info about our topics, and I thought that it would be cool if we could show something to the class like a picture of a aeroplane with labels showing how it flys. “ Why don’t we make a presentation to show the class on the projector “ Luke said. So Luke went in search for a photo while I set up the presentation. “ Only 3 minutes left “ Mr Garfield said. Then we both started looking for photos, but finally we found it. It was perfect and that's exactly when our time finished. After a few groups had done theirs, it was our time to shine ! We had shared our presentation and our teacher put it up on the screen. And then we presented it. Everyone looked interested, and it turned out great. And that was my most favourite part of the day !
This time, Freddy is writing about his second day of Term 4 where he did a explanation with his friend in front of the whole class ! Hope you enjoy !

Freddy's Holidays

“ Cheesecake, Cheesecake, we’re going to make cheesecake ! “ sang my annoying sisters. Today was a special day because we were making cheesecake ! We all had went to the nearest supermarket ( which was a place called New World ) which we had visited a couple of times.

“ Remember to get the ingredients “ My Mum said while we were in the car. My sisters had to come because my dad had gone to work. When we arrived, my sisters quickly ran away and split up so me and my mum had to try and find them, then we heard the loudspeaker. “ Any customers who have lost there children, please report to the checkouts please “. “ Why did my sisters have to be found, couldn’t they have just hid forever “ I moaned to myself. When we got ingredients, we went to the checkout. But then we realized that we forgot the sour cream, so I ran and got the sour cream just in time. When we arrived, we got everything out and started getting the equipment like hand mixer and bowls. But we didn’t have a mixer, so my Mum said we have to use some elbow grease and try and do it with our hands. First we melted 570 grams of butter and melted it in the microwave for a minute. Then we had to crush biscuits for the cheesecake base.  Then  had to mix the butter with the biscuits and lay it flat onto the base of the cake tin. My Mum had to let them  it because they wanted to do something. Then we made the filling where we had to mix everything together. I then spread all batter onto the crushed biscuit base and then we put it into the fridge to form into a cheesecake. But my sisters were so impatient, they were opening the fridge every 5 minutes or so. But when It was finally done, we all had some and it was delicious !

This time, Freddy writes about what he done in the holidays with his family before Term 4 starts. Hope you enjoy !

Maths strategy

Strategy Equalisation:
In Room 15, we are learning what we know already about maths and what were supposed to know about maths depending on our stage. So we have to learn our strategies. One of the strategies is the equalisation strategy.
In this strategy, you have to round your numbers to a base number which is comfortable with you so you can add or minus your equation. For example, Instead of doing 403 - 97, you can do 406-97=50
Try doing 63 + 76 using this strategy and post it in the comments.

Maths we done this week

Today for maths, we were learning about tenths and hundredths and how to present them in pictures, words and decimals. For example, we had to convert 5/10 into a decimal which is 0.5. And we also needed to colour in decimals ,for example if the decimal was 0.38, we had to colour in 3 tenths and 8 hundredths.

PB4L

For PB4L we had to write the things we are supposed to do in the hall. So we wrote what we thought under three groups: value yourself, value your learning and respect all others.

Value Yourself:
Sit next to people who won’t distract you.
Not talking while there is a speaker at the front.

Being focused.

Sitting up quietly.

Wipe your feet when you enter the hall.

Be respectful and sensible.

Ignore those who distract you.

Listen to any notices so you know what’s going to happen.

Don’t distract other people.

Walking sensibly into the hall.

Be a Role Model.

Be responsible for your own behaviour.

Value Your Learning:
Listen to the person who’s talking.
Active Listen.

Follow Instructions.

Going into the hall quietly.

Make sure you're focused on your selves.
Respect All others
Be kind to other people.

Sit down so people can see.

Don’t push other.

Listening to what people are saying.

Have eye contact on the person is talking.

Going in the hall quietly.

Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

No talking so people can hear.

Respect other while they are explaining.

Art this term

This term, we had art day because we had tons of sunshines. So for art day, we mixed matariki and book week together, so for the first part of the day, we were trying to make a origami star so that could represent matariki. And after morning tea, we had to draw an item or a character which represents some sort of fairytale. Here are the photos of our work.

Persuasive blog writing

To all the digital classes in May Road School, In my opinion, I think that we should only put school work on our blogs.

Firstly, The school owns the blog.
That means its meant for learning, right ?
So when they visit your blog, they will be expecting to see work, not something else ! They might think we don’t do any work at our school and we just do nothing, who wants that to happen?

Secondly, We are representing our school.
We must put our best work on our blog, and they might end up seeing something which is not up to standard, That means parents might not send their children to school, and we won’t have that much children come to our school.

And lastly, Everyone in the whole wide world will see it.
It would be really embarrassing if you have a big boo boo on your work, and every one would see it, it's like when you accidentally forget to put your pants on and everyone is laughing at you. Plus, who wants to see a mistake in someone's work, I know I don’t.

There are many reasons why you should only put school work on your blog, I have just named a few. This is the school's own blog that they created for you so you could represent our school show your best work to the whole world, They don’t want something rude for everyone to see.
In conclusion, I truly think that we should only put school work on our blogs.

Matariki this term

This term, we learnt a lot about matariki. We just had our matariki celebration assembly last week, and we had to sing this song, and this drawing has the lyrics on it.

Science this term

This term for science, we are learning about water, A lady called Sally from watercare came to our school and taught us about water. We learnt that water is the only element which can transform into 3 different forms. We also done tons of experiments and here is one of my favourite.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT
Equipment/materials (what were ALL the things you used to conduct the experiment?):
White pepper, tray, tarpaulin,water.

Hypothesis (what was the prediction you made BEFORE you started doing anything?):
The white pepper would float

Steps taken (list as much detail as you can)
  1. Lay tarpaulin
  2. Put tray on tarp
  3. pour water into tarp
  4. shake pepper into tray

Result (what actually happened, and was it the same as, or different from your prediction?) :
it was the same.

Conclusion (what did you learn from the experiment?):
pepper floats.

Fishy problem using speech recognition

This term, we done a lot of maths problems, but this is my favourite one. I wrote this using speech recognition, try and figure it out.

Fishy problem
Millie has just got a new pet fish. The pet shop owner told her that she needs to put the fish into exactly 1 litre of water. The problem is she can only find 2 containers. One holds 7 litres and the other holds 4 litres. Can you use these two containers to put exactly 1 litre of water into the fish tank?

First I filled up the 4 litre container and then I put four litres of water in 7 litres which means that the 7 litre container now 4 litres in it. Then I filled up the 4 litre container again. And then I put the 4 litres into the 7 litres, but I had 1 litre left in my 7 litre container otherwise it would overflow and that's how I got 1 litre.

Fairy tale problem

For maths, we had to create a problem which included a fairy tale character and you needed to use multiplication to figure it out.

Rumpelstiltskin has to spin hay bales out of gold for the woodcutter's daughter, he spins one hay bale per 15 minutes. How many hay bales can he spin in 12 hours ?

First, I had to find out how many hay bales would he make in an hour. I done that by adding 15 until I got to 60 minutes, which was 4 hay bales. Then I had to times 4 by 12 because it was 4 hay bales per hour and there were 12 hours. Which gave me 48 and the answer is 48 hay bales.

Jack And The Beanstalk Giant's Perspective

This is my Jack and the beanstalk story told in the Giant's perspective.
I hope you enjoy this retelling.

Everyone knows about the story of that cunning Jack and the beanstalk, or you think you know it. If you really think about it, it's like Jack is the wretched villain. That boy just walked into my house and stole all of my prized possessions. And what did I do to him ? Well enough about my opinion, here is the REAL story.

It was an ordinary day, I woke up smelling my beautiful wife's cooking when I smelt the blood of an englishman !
I looked around quickly, but I saw nothing. “fe fi fo fum  I smell the blood of an englishman “ I shouted to my wife. “ It must of been these 20 juicy meat chops “ My wife said in a calm voice. So I had to forget about it and eat the chops. After, I started counting my gold coins to check if anyone had stole any of my coins. But I fell asleep counting them. But surprisingly, when I woke up. They were gone ! I looked everywhere, but that cheeky boy stole them, and what did I do to him ?

After a while, he came back, but this time he was wearing new clothes so my wife did not recognize him. So she hid him.So I woke up and shouted out on top of my lungs “I smell the blood of an englishman ! “. My wife said “ It must be these 20 sausages I cooked for you
This time, I had a goose that would lay golden eggs for me which I took perfect care of. So when I finished eating my breakfast, I took out my goose and told him/her to lay. And he/she layed a beautiful golden egg for me. Then I started drowsing off. That’s when he grabbed my goose and ran. So now my goose is gone and all I have left is my golden harp which sings for me.

Then sometime later, he came back. But this time, He sneaked into my house and hid in the bread basket. “I smell the blood of an english man !” I screamed. “ it must be that that little thief again, he always hides in the oven “ My wife said. But when my wife checked there, he was not there, so me and my wife looked all over the kitchen. But when we were not looking, He jumped out of the breadbox and ran away with the golden harp ! Come on now ! he has stolen my money, my goose and now my golden harp ! now that's just crossing the line. Well on with the story. While he was running away, my harp shouted “ Master, Master, help me please “.
So I chased after the greedy boy with my harp, it was like a cat and mouse chase. Finally he reached the beanstalk and started climbing down as fast as he could and I was so close to catching him. But he bet me and got to the ground faster. The next thing I see his him holding an axe so he could chop down the beanstalk. He chopped down the beanstalk and then BOOM!. And that the end of me.

Now here I am, writing to you from heaven. Now Jack and his wicked mother are wealthy as ever and my poor wife is left to get money for herself, she had to sell our wonderful castle to feed herself. So now my wife is poor and Jack had moved to a mansion. And I am stuck here in heaven, I would have come down to earth and help my wife and help here but I can’t. So join me now and help me to destroy Jack once and for all !

Sleeping beauty narrative

SLEEPING BEAUTY NARRATIVE
This is my retelling of Sleeping Beauty, we had to do this for Book week, hope you enjoy.
Once upon a time, in a magical kingdom. There was a King and a Queen, they just had a new member of the family which was born, it was a cute little baby princess called Sleeping Beauty. There were also 13 fairies who lived in the magical kingdom too. All of the fairies were good, except the 13th one. She had to be the most despicable fairy on earth.
The King was overjoyed by the birth of his brand new baby, he held a marvelous feast at his castle. He invited everyone in the kingdom except the Wicked fairy. After the feast, all of the fairies gave the brand new princess magical gifts, like kindness, beauty and happiness.

When the 11th fairy had gave her gift, the 13th fairy appeared out of no where. “ How dare you not invite me to your feast” the 13th fairy screamed. “ For that, I shall put a spell that on Sleeping Beauty’s 15th birthday, she shall prick her finger, and she will die !” Then she suddenly disappeared. The King and Queen were petrified. But luckily, the 13th fairy forgot that the 12th fairy hadn’t done her blessing yet, so the 12th fairy wished that the curse would be changed and she wouldn’t die. Instead she done a spell where everyone would go to sleep for 100 years or until her true love came and kissed her. After hearing that, the king burned down every spindle in the kingdom, so she would never prick her finger.

15 years had past and it was Sleeping Beauty’s 15th birthday. No one had woken up, So she decided to go explore the castle, when she encounters a room with a old lady in it( which is the 13th fairy disguised as a old lady ) and a spinning wheel in it. The old lady said " Will you help me spin my young dear ". She had never seen a spindle before so she tried helped her but she accidentally touched the spinning needle and instantly, she fell to the ground and started sleeping.
Everyone had heard It the legend so all the princes tried to get in, but they could not because bushes and trees had grown stopping them from coming into the castle. But one day, a charming and handsome prince passed the giant trees and the spiky bushes to the explore the magnificent castle and find Sleeping Beauty. While he was exploring the silent castle, when he happened to stumble across sleeping beauty. When he saw her, he kneeled down and kissed Sleeping Beauty.

Then, like magic everyone quickly woke up and everyone rushed to see what had happened. Sleeping beauty told everyone what had happened.
So then they lived happily ever after.
